Local Projects

We’re passionate about making a difference right here in our own community. Through our local work, we aim to tackle hardship, build connection, and create opportunities for people to thrive — showing compassion in action, close to home.

Roots In Our Community

At Karuna Action, we’re passionate about giving back to Aldershot — the town we call home. Our vision is to create a welcoming, inclusive space where people can find purpose, connection, and opportunity.

Through our community hub, we offer supported volunteering, work experience, and wellbeing activities that help reduce isolation and build confidence. It’s a place where individuals can grow, learn, and contribute — whatever challenges they may face.

Karuna Coffee House was born from this vision: a community hub where local initiatives can flourish and people of all backgrounds can belong. Our dream is simple — to bless our town and see lives transformed through compassion in action.

Community Grub Hub

Through our partnership with the Community Grub Hub, we’re helping to reduce food poverty, cut food waste, and create a welcoming space where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.

The Grub Hub team works alongside local volunteers, organisations, and residents to collect and distribute food, support community events, and connect people with wider services — including help with housing, benefits, digital access, and wellbeing.

This partnership is a natural extension of our mission: to take compassionate, practical action that makes a real difference in people’s lives. Together with the Grub Hub, we’re building a more caring and sustainable community for Aldershot and beyond.

Refuge

At Karuna Action, we believe that genuine inclusion begins with opportunity and friendship. In response to local need, we’ve developed a vocational placement scheme that supports asylum seekers as they build confidence, develop skills, and integrate into the community.

The project offers participants hands-on experience in a welcoming hospitality environment, where learning happens naturally through everyday interaction. By engaging with the public and working alongside our team, volunteers improve their English, develop communication skills, and gain valuable insight into British life and workplace culture.

We also offer informal English classes, including TEFL-based sessions for those who wish to deepen their learning, and support for younger volunteers preparing for IELTS qualifications. But at the heart of it all is friendship â€” building lasting relationships rooted in trust and belonging, creating a community that continues to support each other long after formal placements end.

Through this work, we hope to see individuals not only learn and grow, but flourish — becoming confident, valued members of our community.
